16001 A St S, Spanaway, WA 98387
The 1983 dedication of Spanaway Lutheran Church included a stunning Schwidder Christ-in-blessing carving impending over the chancel area incorporating the incarnational theme including a carved descending dove of the Holy Spirit against the backdrop of a Mark Gulsrud-designed lantern
window depicting the Creator of all. The oak trees on the church property give local emphasis to the calligraphic excerpt from Isaiah 61:1-3 adumbrating Jesus’ opening proclamation in Luke 4:17-19. The central altar-table, ambo, sanctuary lamp, credence table, 2 floor candles further but more simply adorn the chancel area. At the nave entrance is a black metal barrel font with six carved fiery/watery wood supports and matching baptismal candle holder. An overhead calligraphed wood panel welcomes worshipers in the narthex entrance.
